A local leader in the Nakuru County assembly from Rongai Sub County is worried on a trend of openly drinking and engaging in drug abuse youths were taking in her ward saying that a lot had to be done to end the anomaly.
Speaking at the Mangu Health Centre after hosting governor Mbugua’s wife Lucia Mbugua in her backyard on Wednesday during her inter-ward cancer awareness and screening campaign, Menengai MCA Lucy Kihumba called on the recently appointed Sub County alcohol committee in Rongai to speed up efforts aimed at eradicating the vice that believes was impacting on the youthful generation negatively.
Kihumba noted that alcoholism and drug addiction was rendering many youths jobless and making them not reach their full potentials in life something she believes is making Rongai Sub County lag behind development wise.
“A sober society is a productive one and this can only be achieved if young people are advised to desist from too much drinking and other related activities,” she said.
She believes that cancer prevalence cases would reduce by double digits if people made wise decisions of adopting healthy lifestyles but also encouraged the women to come for screening with their partners.
“Cancer is not meant for the females alone, anybody is prone to this disease and it’s advised that all of us get screened to exactly where we fall and get professional guidance on what to do and not do so as not to be affected,” Kihumba advised.
She also seized the opportunity to thank everybody that stood with her during the difficult period where her family house was torched by unknown arsonists saying that that was one of the most trying moments of her political carrier.
The Menengai West MCA lost property estimated to be close to 50 million and to date, she is still to come to terms with what transpired but has ever since expressed her commitment of fulfilling all her campaign promises to them.
