The Opposition on Wednesday met to deliberate on how to form a formidable force ahead of the 2017 general elections.
The meeting held at the Bomas of Kenya brought together Cord principals Raila Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) alongside other party leaders including Musalia Mudavadi of ANC.
However, with Mudavadi’s returning to his long-time friend, things may not be rosy at all for some quarters in the Cord equation.
It must be remembered that when Mudavadi was recently installed the Luhya spokesperson, Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula laughed it off as a futile imposition on the people.
This could be attributed to the strength Mudavadi would get and therefore increase his bargaining power on behalf of the western voters.
Come NASA, and leaders need to unite.
There is Raila with the Nyanza and a fairly large crowd from the rest of the country especially Coast where his deputy party leader Hassan Joho is a popular governor.
Then there is Kalonzo with the Kamba vote and a fair support from the rest of Kenya.
But someone must bring the Luhya vote.
The question is, who will deliver Western, putting into consideration that Mudavadi is often credited for starting talks for the formation of NASA?
During the Bomas conference, there is a picture of the opposition leaders. Raila is flagged by Kalonzo Musyoka on one side and on the other, your guess is as good as mine.
Mudavadi has come in between Raila and Wetangula who has to play subordinate.
Again, everyone in the picture is all smiles and connecting with the audience ahead.
But Wetangula.
Is frustration weighing in? Will he opt out of NASA and seek another coalition?
Will he join President Uhuru Kenyatta now that their 2008 friendship has not been long lost?
Will he join Ababu Namwamba or Gideon Moi who has not yet declared his position?
