Wiper leader and former vice president Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday joined mourners from various parts of the nation during the burial of retired Justice Onesmus Kimweli Mutungi in Yumbu Village, Kitui County.
Kalonzo eulogised Mutungi as a principled judge, who was never involved in corrupt dealings. The Ukambani political kingpin said that the nation has lost a dedicated servant who worked tirelessly to make Kenya a corrupt free nation.
“Professor Mutungi was a teacher to all of us. He supported some of us greatly in politics, advising us on what to do during difficult times,” he said. Mutungi will be remembered as the first Kenyan citizen to graduate with a doctorate in Law from Yale University, USA, in 1974.
During his career, Mutungi was the chancellor of Kenyatta University, before he was appointed a judge of the High Court. Other leaders who attended the burial Kitui Senator David Musila, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and MPs Rachel Nyamai. Daniel Maanzo the office of Kitui Governor sent Deputy Governor Penninah Malonza to represent Governor Julius Malombe.
Kibwana eulogised Mutungi as a dedicated and committed teacher “Professor Mutungi was my teacher. I passed very well in his subjects. He was a great teacher,” he said.
