Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has come out with another analysis explaining why Raila Odinga is not keen to win the 2017 General Election.
Mutahi said that Raila knows that winning the presidency is just but a dream hence he has devised a strategy to ensure that he gets into government.
In his hypothesis title 'Game Theory', Ngunyi states that Odinga is not planning to win but deliberately setting himself up to lose and force a run-off.
“If Raila plans to win this election, he will lose but if he plans to lose this election he will win. So if he plans deliberately to lose this election, he will force a run and if he forces a run-off chances of him being in Government are very high,” Ngunyi theorises.
Mutahi said Odinga has tactfully organised the plan by making sure that Cord co-principals Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka together with Musalia Mudavadi run for the presidency.
This, as per Ngunyi's theory, is not with the intent of winning but denying President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto a win of 50 percent plus one vote, so that the candidates enter into a run-off.
The professor notes that President Kenyatta and Mr Ruto ought to use the run-off and influence their supporters to be aggressive towards the idea.
Once this is accomplished, the political scientist assumes that Jubilee followers will be scared of going into a run-off hence go out in huge numbers to vote for Mr Kenyatta and his deputy.
“If you construct a bungee man and have people aggress this bungee man then the possibilities of you mobilising and organising for politics effectively are much higher," he said.
"In 2002 the object of aggression was Arap Moi, in 2007 the object of aggression was the Gikuyu hegemony hence the idea of 41 vs 1, in the 2013 object of aggression was the ICC. In this election, we do not have an object of aggression but our submission is that the JAP nation can use the run-off as a bungee man, a monster to scare their supporters into waking up very early in the morning to go and vote," Ngunyi added.
