Messi said he is not friends with the Portuguese player, but would gladly meet him on a dinner date.

“Yes, I don’t have any problem with that. I’ve always said that I don’t have any issue with him. We might not be friends because we’ve never shared a dressing room together but I always see him at award shows and there’s no problem,” Messi is quoted by Goal.com.

He added, “We actually spoke with each other for quite a long time at the most recent show. I don’t know if there will be a dinner because I don’t know if our paths will cross for obvious reasons, each one of us has our own life and our own commitments. But obviously I would accept the invitation.”

The two players have sustained rivalry on the football pitch for over ten years, and what exist between them is respect for one another’s ability.

Last month, Ronaldo said that he hopes to have dinner with Lionel Messi sometime in the future.

The two soccer wizards have won the FIFA Ballon d’Or five times each, Ronaldo in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017 while Messi walked away with the individual prize in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015.
