The county government has embarked on a plan that will see more houses built in Eldoret town.

Deputy County Commissioner Daniel Chemno said the move aims at offsetting the housing shortage in the town.

Mr Chemno said Eldoret town had in recent years registered an increase in population which was not in tandem with the growth in the real estate sector.

"The county government has partnered with the National Social Security Fund and Weinai International Economic and Technical Corporation of China," he said on Friday.

"We expect to put up high rise buildings to accommodate the rising population."

Some of the areas in the town where the houses will be built include Kidiwa, Tom Mboya, Saroiyot, Elgon View, Mayabi and Pioneer.

The houses will be rented to residents at lower rates.
