Residents of Kinale have urged the government to erect road signs along the Kinale-Naivasha-Nakuru highway in a bid to curb road accidents along the road.

The residents claim that road signs that existed along the road have been vandalised, a move they say has led to the rise in road carnage.

According to the locals, cases of people being knocked down by speeding motorists are on the rise especially at Kinale shopping center.

Speaking to this writer on Tuesday, Josphat Kimotho, the Kinale traders representative said vandalism of road signs has resulted to accidents.

He said many people get knocked down and even killed by rogue motorists.

“The government should move with speed and erect road signs that have been vandalised to curb accidents,” he said.

The traders also said that cases of livestock that graze along the roads were on the rise.

“You walk around the road and all you see are carcasses of dead animals killed by speeding motorists,” he said.

The residents fear that road accidents are likely to rise if nothing is done this festive season.

They also want the government to crack the whip on rogue motorists who over speed.

Janet Kasuvo, a trader said erection of bumps along the road would help curb over speeding.

“The government should order for the erection of road bumps along the Kinale-Naivasha-Nakuru road to reduce on accidents,” she said.

Ms Kasuvo said that the road registers increased accidents during festive season.

She urged motorists especially those operating Pubic Service vehicles to adhere to road regulations.
