Kimani resigned from the Board of Uchumi Supermarkets Limited with effect from May 23, 2016.

To fill the casual vacancy, the Board has appointed Tim Kabiru as a director which is subject to confirmation by shareholders at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM).

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Wednesday from Uchumi CEO Dr Julius Kipngetich, Kabiru is currently the Chief Commercial Officer at Jamii Bora Bank.

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of New Brunswick, Canada and has a high level of experience in the areas of retail banking, treasury management, strategic planning and foreign exchange trading; having held key leadership roles in those areas with various institutions in Kenya’s banking sector.

Uchumi has been in the doldrums following improprieties which forced closed some of its branches countrywide.

According to Kipngetich the closure is aimed at benefitting the branch of supermarkets in terms of making profits.

The branches that have been closed down include; Nakuru branch, Embu, Taj Mall, Kisii and Eldoret Sunderland.
