Oscar Kipchumba Sudi is one of the most popular youthful power brokers in the expansive North Rift region. He is the current Member of Parliament for Kapsaret constituency, elected under DP William Ruto's URP party.
His constituents usually refer him as Sonko, a sheng version for a powerful and rich man. Sudi is among William Ruto’s closest allies in Rift Valley. The Kapseret legislator is said to have a great following in areas beyond his constituency, as in the last elections he helped two other former area MPs, Hon David Koros and Hon Peris Siman win elections.
The 32-year-old Sudi was Koros’s chief strategist during the 2002 elections but later decamped to Simam's side where he helped her to oust Koros in 2007 campaigns.
Interestingly, Koros and Simam lost 2013 elections but Sudi himself emerged victorious in his Kapseret seat trouncing other aspirants by big margins.
However, in an interview with County Weekly, Mr Sudi is on record making fun of the two former legislators, saying they failed because they never took heed of his political advice.
“I advised them to honour their campaign pledges but they never. This eventually made them fall out with the electorate,” he was quoted.
Sudi is among the young politicians who aggressively campaigned for Jubilee party. In the incoming elections, he says he will defend his legislative position under the Jubilee party.
