Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has weighed in on the debate concerning revenue allocation to counties.
Speaking on Wednesday during the PointBlank show on KTN, Kabogo called for a change in the formula employed in revenue allocation to make it fairer than it is.
The former county boss contended that the funds allocated to counties should not be informed by their respective geographical areas, but rather their population size.
He said it did not make sense that a county like Turkana was getting a larger share of the national cake than Kiambu County, yet the latter has a greater population size.
"Revenue must be shared in terms of population size. Kiambu gets Sh8 billion while Turkana Sh14 billion," he said.
The Division of Revenue Bill signed by President Uhuru Kenyatta stipulates that allocations to counties be pegged on geographical size.
There are those who argue that the formula is erroneous as it puts counties with high populations but smaller geographical areas, at a disadvantage.
Kabogo's intervention comes amid an unresolved tussle between the National Assembly and the Senate on the vexed issue of revenue allocation.
