Cecilia Wamaitha said harvesting the water would help save water to be used during the dry spell.

She called on the county government to construct dams to preserve water as rains continue.

"The food security of this area relies on irrigation. We can only irrigate crops if we have enough water and we can easily get that water from say tapping in flood waters into dams and reservoirs which farmers can later be used during drought seasons," said Wamaitha.

Speaking in Munyu on Wednesday during a meeting with water stakeholders among them Athi Water Services, Ms Wamaitha said dams for would help store flood waters for future use.

The MCA noted that flood waters always bring destruction in the area whenever there are heavy rains and it is high time the water was put into the right use.

James Kembi, an officer from Athi Water Services said the idea of building a dam in the area was noble and they would consider it.

"There is no doubt that even having a single dam in this area would go a long way in helping residents. That is something we will definitely think about going forward," Kembi said.
