This comes after MCAs in the budgetary committee retreated to Kisumu for a one week induction of 2016/17 budget making process.

Speaking to the reporter on Tuesday, Atuti said the roads department needed more allocation to improve accessibility to agricultural productive regions.

“I want to challenge my friends in the budget committee to give roads first priority in 2016/17 budget. Our people need accessible roads because we are an agricultural county,” he said.

“We don’t want incidents where as MCAs we are unable to improve road networks given it’s the primary need of our people. We want the allocation to increase from Sh307 million to at least Sh600 million for the sake of giving farmers easy time in transporting their produce,” he said.

Atuti also challenged tendering committee to ensure contractors given tenders to construct a number of feeder roads execute their responsibilities within the stipulated time.

“As much as I want more allocation, it’s also important to remind tendering committee that we need contractors who are faster in executing their responsibilities. We will not allow instances where people are given contracts and take several months to complete a small task,” he added.

He also backed more allocation for Health Sector which he chairs in the County Assembly, saying more hospitals needed refurbishment and proper equipment.
