Former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo will vie for the Elgeyo Marakwet Senatorial seat in next year’s general elections.
Kimaiyo, who was acoompanied by Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi spoke on Sunday in Kapyego Ward, Elgeyo Marakwet, where he said he will be vying for the top legislative seat.
“I will be running for political office in 2017 and I will announce it at the right time, but the office I am seeking will be a legislative one,” said Kimaiyo.
He further hinted that he will be running for the seat using the Kanu ticket, and expressed his dissatisfaction with the current administration for firing him.
He will be remembered for the police boss seat that he held, before he resigned due to a public outcry when insecurity in the country was at its highest.
He is expected to face incumbent senator Kipchumba Murkomen, who has said he will defend his seat in next year’s general polls.
Others who have shown interest in the seat include; health consultant Michael Kibiwott, URP official John Kangogo, ODM politician Micah Kigen, Elgeyo Marakwet speaker Albert Kochei, Lucas Chemweolo and Julius Bomer.
