The General secretary of Kenya Union of Nurses Seth Panyako has alleged that the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) is stealing money from the people indirectly.
Speaking at Gusii stadium during the launch of International Nurses Week, Panyako said that the NHIF should be clear on how it is helping the Kenyans.
“As the union we are concerned on how the NHIF is being used in aid of assisting our people," said Panyako.
"Let us have the measures of governing the funds in all hospitals so that our people can understand how they are benefiting from this funds,” he added.
He added that the National Health Insurance Fund act says the fund should be used to pay for services already offered.
But many have changed the act to another way where the management of NHIF is colluding with private briefcase hospitals to loot funds from its contributors.
On the other hand, Kisii county Governor James Ongwae assured residents that his government has put all measures ion place in aid of helping the venerable people in Kisii County to access the NHIF scheme.
“My government has set measures of helping the venerable people with the NHIF scheme so that they can benefit, I would like to be clear about the issues that it will cater only for the venerable people in the society,” said Ongwae.
