Naivasha Member of County Assembly (MCA) Samwel Waithuki has lauded plans by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to build a speed centre at Kinungi ahead of the festive season.
Speaking on Wednesday in Naivasha town, Waithuki termed the move as long overdue, adding that several lives have been lost in the area.
He said that the area was a black spot and is among the leading accident spots as far as road transport is concerned in the country.
"I really wish to appreciate the efforts taken by NTSA for responding to the dangers posed by this area as far as road transport is concerned. Erecting a speed centre will surely go a long way in reducing the number of deaths at this place," he said.
The authority's chairman Lee Kinyanjui earlier stated that a contractor who will carry out the exercise has already been identified and the project will commence soon.
He also added that the exercise will be done five days prior to the Christmas festivities with areas such as Kayole, Karai and Ihindu already identified.
