Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka has challenged the leadership of Kisii County to desist from complaining and take full responsibility on corruption related cases.
Kisii County was ranked third by a report released by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) as one of the counties experiencing high level of corruption in public service delivery, a report that has since been dismissed by county leadership as ‘partial’ and politically instigated.
But Onyonka has challenged Governor James Ongwae to take full responsibility and carry out a special audit on the report to identify affected areas for an action.
“I am worried that the county leadership can cry foul over corruption at the moment the nation is fighting graft. It’s time that the governor takes responsibility and takes action to combat rampant graft in the county,” Onyonka said on phone.
“As a leader, I expected the governor to take the report seriously and constitute a technical committee that can work with EACC to identify affected areas for a stern action. It’s wrong to start blaming the old narrative of politics on graft issues,” he added.
Onyonka also challenged the county leadership to regulate its scathing attacks on the anti-corruption body and instead work with its officials to weep out corruption in the county.
“It’s wrong to call press conferences and start accusing an independent body which is aware of its mandate. We all know that there is massive corruption in the county and the governor should come out clean by working with EACC to bring culprits to book. He should clean the system instead of coming up with excuses,” he said.
