Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has urged Mau settlers to stay put amid tensions over the government's controversial eviction plan.
Speaking exclusively to Citizen TV on Friday, the outspoken legislator asked the settlers not to move an inch until the government comes up with an acceptable plan.
"We want to say that the people of Mau to stay put until such a day when the government will set aside money or come up with a coherent eviction plan (Sisi tunataka tuseme ya kwamba watu wa Mau wakae Mau mpaka siku ile serikali itatenga pesa ama itaamua ni namna gani watapata kutolewa pale kwa namna mzuri)," he said.
His words mark an escalation in the opposition by a section of Rift Valley leaders to the pushing out of families from the important water catchment area.
The leaders have insisted that the State must come up with a compensation plan for the settlers who they say acquired the land through legal means.
Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko has insisted that there will be no compensation for the settlers, saying that their titles were irregularly acquired.
A few weeks ago, the CS held a closed-door meeting with security officials in Narok reportedly to discuss the evictions.
Critics of the evictions have accused the CS of using Mau to advance a political agenda.
