The former Vice President has lately indicated that he is not ready to shelve his ambition for the top seat once again, after twice supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga's candidature.

In an interview on Citizen TV's Townhall on Monday night, he stated that he is well in the race, and will be taking his second shot at the position after his futile 2013 attempt.

"I am in the race for president in 2022," he said.

Mudavadi urged Kenyans to make the right choice during the polls, calling upon them to make independent decisions and avoid being misled by the political class.

He advised the electorate to elect leaders based on what they stand for and not their political parties or their ethnic background.

"I have the least sympathy for the Kenyan voter…I want to encourage voters to assert themselves, to stop being stereotyped, to elect leaders for what they stand for not for the political party they belong to," he added.

In the 2013 poll, Mudavadi vied alongside Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni as his running mate, in a race where he emerged a distant third.

The first and second positions were occupied by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
