A top city lawyer was on Thursday arraigned in court over allegations of assaulting his wife.
Boniface Apamo Akusala was presented at the Kibera Law Courts over allegations of assaulting his wife Faith Leah Kweya, leaving her with bodily harm.
Kibera Senior Resident Magistrate Renee Kitangwa was told that the incident happened at Oasis Estate in South C in Nairobi on June 16.
“On June 16 at Oasis estate, Lang'ata Sub-County in Nairobi, you unlawfully assaulted Faith Leah Kweya thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm,” read the charge sheet, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The accused who is a member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) denied the charges and applied for a bond.
The court granted his request, releasing him on Sh30,000 cash bail, with an option of Sh100,000 bond.
The case is set to be heard again on October 2, this year.
Akusala becomes the second notable legal mind to be arraigned for criminal charges in a few months, following that of lawyer Assa Nyakundi over murder claims.
Nyakundi who is being accused of shooting his son Joseph Nyakundi dead has been frequenting courts lately since he allegedly murdered the 29-year-old earlier in the year.
