Hundreds of visitors took advantage of the festive season to visit the Hyrax prehistoric site.

Located about five kilometers from Nakuru town, the museum contains rich history of the Sirikwa people.

Residents thronged the area to relax with their families and engage in various activities.

Among the major attractions was the tortoise pit that hosted more than 30 tortoises.

“I never knew that such could be found in Nakuru. I only thought tortoises are found in Mombasa or Lamu. I’m glad we have them here," said Ann Njambi.

She added that the ability to see the tortoises at a close range was also welcoming.

The museum also contains a nature trail that ends up on top of the hill, with a beautiful view of Nakuru town.

“One is be able to clearly see Lake Nakuru and the entire town and this has been an amazing experience," said Nicole Waithera

Among other attractions are a picnic and a camping sites.

The residents pointed out that the entrance fee for such an area is affordable.

“We only paid Sh100 while the children paid Sh50 which any parent can afford. It is also clear and the air is fresh. I am appealing to those people who have never been to the place try it out," said Peter Muchemi.
