Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has distanced himself from allegations that he squandered Sh2 billion during his time in office.

The MP instead blamed Machakos County Governor Dr Alfred Mutua, over what he claims was his failure to heed his advice on revenue collection in the constituency.

The lawmaker who was speaking at Mitaboni Trading Centre on Friday, claimed that not a single coin of the Sh400 million which is collected as revenue from the area can be accounted for.

“I want the governor to explain to the people where he takes the Sh400 million which is collected as revenue from Mavoko since there are no records to show such a figure of money is being collected,” said Makau.

He added: “When I tried to advise him on the best method to improve revenue collection in the area, he called me a thief instead of heeding my advice.”

Makau said it was unfair for the county government to continue collecting revenue from the people without showing value for the money in form of development projects.

“The county government is collecting Sh400 million from the people of Mavoko. Unfortunately the better part of this money is ending in the pockets of the people working for the governor, and in hosting delegations from Kitui and Makueni Counties, instead of being used to address the problems we have at home,” he said.

The MP urged the Council of Governors to expel Mutua from the council, claiming he has been fooling Kenyans over his development agenda which is allegedly a cover-up for entrenched corruption prevalent in his government.
