The County government of Kisii has been urged to direct the Older Persons Cash Transfer program (OPCT) to the local administration units to ease accessibility for the beneficiaries.
Addressing journalists on Friday at a Kisii Hotel Maendeleo ya Wanawake Kisii branch chair-lady Mrs Bathsheba Sanaya said there was need for the county government to work with the chiefs and their assistants to distribute the fund to the beneficiaries at their village centers.
She said much of the Sh2,000 monthly stipends the beneficiaries received at their sub-county centres was spent on travelling costs adding that most of them are also aged (over 60 years) and ailing.
“Kisii County government should facilitate the beneficiaries with transport when they are disbursing their monies at the sub-county disbursing centre. In cases where the beneficiaries are too old or ailing and cannot travel, their monies should be given to their caretakers and the chiefs should supervise the exercise,” said Sanaya.
The chairlady lauded the government for the program adding that the beneficiaries could now benefit from the health care services under the national hospital insurance fund (NHIF) program on production of the Inua Jamii card at their nearest hospital facilities.
