The move by ERC to reduce fuel prices has received mixed reactions from residents in Mombasa.
Residents in the county now want public transport operators to reduce fare prices, saying the operators have no moral authority to continue charging them hefty amounts, yet the price of fuel has gone down.
Speaking to this writer on Tuesday, the residents said the current fare of Sh50 is still very high considering fuel prices have gone down.
“Fare prices are still too high. The move by the regulator to reduce the price of fuel should be felt by common citizens like us,” said Dennis Ekisa, a Likoni resident.
His sentiments were shared by Joshua Epale, who said the matatu operators are not considerate, as they have failed to reduce fare by even a small margin.
“These occasional fuel prices reduction mean nothing to us, as the fare always remains the same,” he said.
Levis Juma, a resident, said the government should intervene and ensure matatu operators are compelled to reduce fare prices.
