While addressing the press in Nairobi, the African union special representative in Somalia who is also the head of Amisom ambassador, Franciso Madeira said the union is committed to ensuring the election is a success.

The ambassador said peace and stability will be achieved if the people of Somalia are allowed to elect leaders of their choice.

Madeira insisted terrorism is a global threat that countries have a collective responsibility to combated. Although Amisom is working smoothly, the ambassador decried that funding cuts by EU has greatly affected their operations.

He said they have been working amid challenges that include the shortage of manpower and ammunition but says they are determined to alleviate the situation.

Somalia will hold its general election in August this year.
