A Nyamira MP has laughed off Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba’s resignation as ODM secretary general terming it a ‘passing wind’ and dared him to emulate party leader Raila Odinga by seeking a fresh mandate by relinquishing his parliamentary seat.

In 1995, Mr Odinga resigned from his Ford Kenya party after differing with a section of his colleagues and subsequently resigned as MP for Lang’ata before recapturing the seat on an National Democratic Party ticket.

And now North Mugirango MP Charles Geni wants Mr Namwamba to make his ‘threats’ real by quitting the party to seek a fresh mandate.

“I sometimes think that some politicians are reckless and should be ignored forthwith. When Namwamba resigns from the SG post and threatens to join another party, I think is just but a passing wind. He should be fair enough and seek fresh mandate to make his threats real,” he said.

“He should emulate Raila and go to the people by resigning from his parliamentary seat because as far as I know, he remains a member of ODM. Otherwise it’s a cowardice move that won’t go unpunished,” he added.

He also challenged all ODM rebel MPs to relinquish their elective seats and seek fresh mandates to set precedence for future generations.

“And it’s not Namwamba alone. Whoever was elected on an ODM ticket and does not support the party ideologies should seek fresh mandate or desist from fighting the party. Their time is numbered and we won’t seat and watch,” he said.
