Okoth and local leaders from the slum area got a chance to be educated on their privileges on as spelt out in the Legal Aid Bill and importantly in the small claim courts.

According to Okoth, the programme is targeted at ensuring that individuals from low income earning households get access to legal representation in court matters as a way of promoting justice and fairness irrespective of financial status.

"My office in conjunction with the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) conducted a successful sensitisation forum to our Kibera leaders on small claim courts and the Legal Aid Bill. This program will ensure that there is unlimited access to justice by individuals even from the low-income households here in Kibera. Beneficiaries will be in a position to access free court representation and Legal Aid Fund,'’ noted Okoth.

It is now hoped that residents from the lowly rated slum area will fully benefit from the scheme in pursuit of justice and fairness across the Kenyan courts that have for long been said to favour the rich at the expense of the poor.
