Mavoko Mp Patrick Makau who was charged before a Machakos court on Monday for allegedly inciting youth to burn Syokimau Administration Police camp in his constituency has been released on bail.
Chief Magistrate Lucy Mbugua released the legislator on a Sh100,000 cash bail and also lifted an arrest warrant against him following his commitment to participate in the court process.
Earlier, the High Court had dismissed an application by the lawmaker for anticipatory bail pending his imminent arrest.
Justice Luka Kimaru instead directed the MP to appear before Machakos Law Courts to answer to the arson charge.
Makau, who was arrested and escorted to Machakos Law courts shortly afterwards had argued that he did not lead the demonstrators in setting ablaze of the Syokimau AP camp which according to the prosecution, had been secured as an exhibit in a murder case.
Makau termed the case “mere fabrication” meant to intimidate him.
