Family of Likoni Channel tragedy victims has alleged that the government has kept them in the dark over the arrival of five South African divers hired by Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho.
Speaking through their spokesman Luka Mbati, the family is demanding an update on the progress of the South Africa firm.
“I cannot comment anything to that effect because we have not been provided with any documentation at least to prove that they have arrived. We have been left in the dark,” said Mbati as quoted by K24.
Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu are still missing several days after drowning at the Likoni ferry channel and South African Company-Sub Sea specialists were hired to help the recovery.
Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) Chairman Dan Mwazo stated that they received all the necessary modern equipment to recover the bodies.
He also added that the Indian Navy has offered to support the recovery mission without any form of compensation.
They were on a counter-piracy mission but have agreed to locate the victims before proceeding with their mission.
“I am happy to announce that we have received all the reinforcement that we needed. We have received additional equipment and additional divers so we expect the operation to be much smoother,” Mawazo said at a press briefing on Monday.
