Teething in children may not be hard to detect due to their restlessness.

According to the Center For Disease Control, here are the signs that your baby is teething;

1. Pulling of ears and rubbing of both chin and cheeks

Your baby will start to administer self-massage on the chin as well as the cheeks by either rubbing themselves around the jaw or even pulling their ears to ease the pain. Jennifer Buchanan, a nurse attributes to the fact that the cheeks, ears and gums share nerve pathways.

2. The baby experiences fever, cough, rashes and diarrhoea

To detect when your baby is undergoing teething, take note of his/her health as far as coughing, diarrhoea, rashes and chafing are concerned.

3. Decreased appetite

Janet Woodcock, M.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research states that when your baby is experiencing pain, he/she will not be interested in taking food. In case your baby is teething, you will notice reduced appetite as a result of painful gums.

4. Changes in eating and sleeping patterns

Teething will make your baby restless and will lead to discomfort. This will then make him/her lack a better sleep and will tend to keep waking up at night due to the pain he/she is going through.

5. Drooling

When your baby is teething, you will notice increased production of saliva and at times you might find his/her clothes soaked in fluid. Ensure you wipe as much as possible or fasten their shirts.
