Area MP Richard Tong’i said the scholarship that cost more than Sh2.5 million per year is aimed at motivating girls to pursue their education in an area that has been affected by cases of early marriages.

“We want to elevate the education of girls in this area by attracting them with scholarship that will increase girls’ transition from primary to secondary education and achieve high grades in secondary school,” he said.

The legislator said that every year 30 needy girls with 350 marks and above in KCPE examinations will benefit from the CDF scholarship, in which all their basic requirements including bus-fare, pocket money and shopping will be catered for.

He was speaking at Nyamagwa SDA secondary school where he cleared the school bus balance which was funded by the CDF  and promised to construct a modern library for the school.

The legislator challenged the local people to take their daughters to school, saying that it was the best investment one can offer his child.
