Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia has asked Thika residents and especially those plying Thika town to be wary of thieves using drugs to confuse their targets and later rob them their valuables.

Muthamia, speaking in his office on Wednesday, said that in a span of one week two ladies have reported at Thika Police Station of having been robbed by such thieves and now want other members of the public to be careful not to fall into the thieves' trap.

"One lady reported to us last week Thursday how she lost over Sh 30,000 when preparing to pay school fees for her sister at KCB Uhuru Street branch. She was greeted by a lady at the bank pretending to be a customer and lost her senses completely thereafter only to find herself without her handbag and the money outside the bank," said Muthamia.

Muthamia, says that the other lady lost about Sh50,000 and other personal valuables near Nakumatt Supermarket early this week following a similar trickery. He, however, notes that three women suspects are in police custody who were arrested following a tip-off from the members of the public.

"We have three suspects who were arrested this week while trying their usual games on other people but the members of the public aware of their notoriety were quick to apprehend them and handed them over to us," added Muthamia.

He urged residents to avoid body contacts with strangers to avoid cases of drugging and losing their cash and valuables.
