Anglican Church of Kenya Arch Bishop Dr Eliud Wabukala has urged Kenyans to be on the lookout for politicians who are out to preach hatred ahead of the 2017 elections.

Dr Wabukala said all leaders and not only politicians should watch their public pronouncements to avoid polarising the country.

He said the general public also has a responsibility not to follow the politicians blindly by practicing what they say.

“Hatred will kill the country if not checked properly and I want to tell our politicians to always think before speaking because what they speak has a lot of relevance to some people,” he said.

He said Kenyans should not tolerate leaders who are out to divide them a head of the general elections in 2017.

Speaking on Thursday when he presided over the inauguration of the new Maseno East Diocese in Ahero, Nyando constituency, Dr Wabukala said Kenyans should live as one family devoid of hatred.

On the debate to regulate church activities by the government, he said regulation is not necessary but added that the church must exercise self discipline.

He said the church has the capacity to regulate itself.

“Church is a spiritual place and should not be regulated by the government. I appeal to the church to inculcate discipline and tolerance,” he said.
