Speaking on phone from Mandera, County Director of Medical Service, Dr Jackson Kioko told KBC radio on May 3, that there are 600 suspected cases with only six confirmed to be those of the virus.

"We have mobilised county resources including personnel and have set up treatment points against possible spread of the virus," he said.

This comes in the wake of plans by government to recall the team of Ebola warriors who set out to Sierra Leone to combat Ebola in the last two years.

However, Dr Kioko said medical personnel have been dispatched to scale up efforts to prevent further spread of Cholera and Chikungunya Fever in the North and across the border.

At the same time, locals have been advised to use mosquito repellents and sleep under treated mosquito nets.

Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans through infected mosquitoes.
