The Deputy President said the country should be concerned about the small number of women currently holding positions in the Parliament and Senate.

Addressing a group of pro-equality ambassadors on Friday, Mr Ruto pointed out the fact that Kenya does not have an elected female Governor or an elected Senator, saying that this was a great undoing to the Kenyan population.

“Every citizen and especially those of us who are men must be men enough to be concerned why we do not have our women in elective positions,” he said.

The Deputy President insisted on the need for society to accept the complementarity that naturally exists between the genders, saying that society was only complete when both men and women were brought on board.

Ruto said this at a Nairobi hotel during the launch of the HeforShe campaign that seeks to address gender equity.
