Former diplomat to Somalia Yvonne Khamati has declared that she will vie for the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2017 polls.
Speaking on Thursday during a meeting convened to discuss matters affecting Nairobians, Ms Khamati said she was ready to replace incumbent Mike Mbuvi Sonko who will be contesting in the gubernatorial docket.
Khamati further revealed that she was going to contest on a Jubilee Party ticket, expressing confidence that she would win at the nominations.
Khamati who currently represents Kenya as the deputy head of mission in Somalia to UNEP said that she will go for the seat since she has confidence the current senator Mike Sonko will win the governor's seat in 2017 so that they could work together to improve Nairobi.
"With the skills I have as an ambassador of Kenya to Uganda and Somalia, if given a chance to represent Nairobians at the senate, I will do my best to change the lives of Nairobians," she said.
"My leadership if elected will touch areas like education, improvement of sanitation and fight against corruption in the city," she said.
It should be noted that Khamati is a close ally to the current senator Mike Sonko who might have influenced her to vie for the seat in 2017.
