The MCAs have denied that the county is faced by the challenge of paying certain contractors, who have been crying over delayed payment.

Addressing the media on Friday, Nanighi ward MCA Nasser Mohamed said they appropriate and approve funds, while the executive awards contracts and pays contractors..

“We don’t handle any money. The governor pays contractors,” he said.

Nassir called for a thorough audit of expenditures, whle his Ijara counterpart Mohammed Abdullahi said 'the executive suffers from systematic corruption, bad governance and lack of fiscal discipline'.

Abdullahi told Governor Nathif Jama to pay the contractors, and at the same time lamented over a 'rotten treasury'.

However, Finance executive Ahmed Aden said the county pays contractors when they receive money from the national government, adding that some contractors are impatient.

The county owes contractors about Sh2 billion from the 2013-14 financial year.
