Defiant Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Wednesday responded to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government decision to withdraw his security details by driving himself to Bomas of Kenya.
Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi had their security details withdrawn even though the government has maintained that the move will affect all governors across the country.
And on Wednesday, against the expectations of many, the stylish governor drove to opposition’s meeting at the Bomas without guards.
He dismissed the government’s move as ‘petty’ insisting that he did not need security details to survive.
“I want the government to know that I do not need security and its time they deploy them elsewhere. I trust in God and I know He will always protect me,” he told a huge gathering.
“I cannot be intimidated by anybody because I have a right to speak my mind. I will remain strong by advocating for what is right for my people,” he added.
Joho differed openly with President Uhuru Kenyatta over Jubilee projects in the coast after accusing the government of sidelining the coastal region.
