Speaking in Nakuru during a roadshow to sensitise shareholders on the rights issue, Business Development Director Moses Wekesa, said the company was among the four seeking to sell the electricity to Kenyans at a cheaper rate once MPs approves the Energy Bill that is tabled in Parliament.

“We want to stop the monopolisation of power distribution by Kenya Power and open up other avenues for the country to receive power,” said Wekesa.

He said KenGen will increase its generation capacity mainly from geothermal sources as its focuses on renewable energy.

The director who was accompanied by his counterpart from the supplies and procurement chain, Phillip Yego, said the new projects will also benefit communities around its Olkaria geothermal fields located Nakuru County through non-skilled labour and business opportunities during development period.

“The Government is pursuing the green energy agenda and geothermal which is at the core of KenGen strategy is key in realising this vision. Communities living around our geothermal fields will continue to benefit from ongoing and new projects to be implemented once the funds from the Rights Issue have been realised,” he said.

He made the remarks during a courtesy call on Nakuru Deputy Governor Joseph  Ruto.
