Governor Evans Kidero’s plan to purchase more prestigious cars for the 85 county ward administrators has suffered a hefty blow after an earlier budgetary allocation of Sh85 million in the 2016/17 financial year was revoked by the budget committee.
Instead, the committee criticised the governor's desk over its continued purchase of vehicles.
The latest development comes even after the county assembly approved the 20176/17 budget on Wednesday after a continued standoff with the executive that had threatened to paralyze the approval of the proposed allocations.
Michael Ogada, the chair of the county budget, appropriation committee, issued that the executive had concertedly requested for additional trucks for garbage collection with the sole reason that the 19 that were hired from a Chinese company, Foton, had stalled for lack of necessary spares.
“It is our view as the budget committee that the county reaches to the finish line with respect and adopt measures to ensure that service vehicles are well maintained so as to serve the purposes for the long journey,” said Ogada.
The chairman also blasted the environment department for demanding funds to acquire new imported vehicles instead of repairing the stalled ones.
Ogada further said that the county was in advanced stages of privatising garbage collection and budgeting for purchase of additional trucks was double allocation.
