Kisii-based criminologist Evans Magendo says the move to close Dadaab camp in the northern part of Kenya is a wise move from the government.
According to the expert, the greatest enemy is the enemy within, and the best way to avoid terrorism is not giving the terrorists an opportunity to strike which the government had always failed in the past.
“The enemy within has the ability to cause more harm than an enemy outside. It is easier to stage attacks from within, target soft areas and cause more harm. A large number of terrorists take advantage of the camps to find their way in to the country, plan and stage the attacks,” he says.
The expert says it is the duty of the government to protect its citizens even if it is about using force.
“The government needs to protect its people and sometimes it takes force to do that. The issue of security is a sensitive issue with a little mistake having severe consequences,” he says.
