Preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations which will be held at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru are on schedule.

The Director for Gender and Cultural Services, Mrs. Alice Gekonde, said the planning for the historic celebrations, which will be the first to be held outside Nairobi since independence was almost complete.

Mrs. Gekonde said the county has invited 2500 guests from each sub-county, and that they anticipate many more people, since it will be a great day for the Nakuru county residents.

She said a number of traditional dancers and choirs from all over Kenya have also been invited.

The Director was speaking to the press this morning in her office.

The Director added that the renovation works at the stadium had also been completed and that there was sufficient space for all the invited guests and wananchi.

A celebrative mood has engulfed the town, as residents look forward to the celebrations that are expected to be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Madaraka Day celebrations will be the third occasion Nakuru town will be hosting the president since the beginning of this year.
