The affirmation comes after expansion works to get water to the residents in the town were commissioned recently by the county government.

Speaking after opening a camel milk processing plant in Garissa, the governor said that the rapidly growing town of Garissa was partly the reason why the area is experiencing water shortage. However, the governor said engineers from Garissa Water and Sanitation Company (GAWASCO) and contractors are currently on the ground and they were finalising the process of connecting new areas to the Garissa water supply.

Jama urged the national government to come in and supplement the efforts of the county in ensuring the constant supply of water in the region.

“We spend nearly one million shillings a day in treating water for consumption in Garissa town and we hope the national government can come in and assist us in bringing this cost down,” he said.
