Eronge DEB Secondary School in Nyamira North sub-county has been closed indefinitely following the Sunday evening's fire tragedy where a dormitory housing over 116 boys was razed by a mysterious fire.
The fire which started at 8:05pm, according to the principal Mr Peter Ndubi, destroyed property worth Sh8 million.
This has forced the school management to indefinitely halt learning process at the school until a solution is found.
Addressing students in the school playground, Nyamira North sub-county commissioner Mr John Chelimo condemned the act as barbaric and evil adding that it is a set back on the development the school management had realised for a long time.
He said the intelligence personnel are on the ground to gather information that will unravel the fire mysteries which have hit Gusii schools.
He said, "I condemn this act in the strongest terms possible. It's barbaric and evil for anybody with a sane mind to do such a thing, investigations are on and soon we are closing up to the leads of such acts which have hit our Gusii schools."
The school has joined the list of many schools in the region which have been hit by the tragedy and whose causes remain a riddle to many.
The principal said he depends on well-wishers to reopen the school whose Form Four candidates were allowed to stay behind due to prepare for mock examinations.
"Once well-wishers and leaders help assist with the bedding, I will recall the students by Friday and convert one laboratory into a temporary dormitory, but until then, the school will remain closed except for the candidates who are preparing for their exams," said Ndubi.
