Jackline Anoda allegedly locked her 12 and three-year-old sons without food on June 30, something the prosecution told the court is a habit.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Josphat Kalo, Anoda denied neglecting her children and said she had gone to look for food to cater for her family.

“I am the father and the mother of my two sons. I didn’t neglect my duties since I had gone to look for food,” Anoda told the court.

The prosecution told the court that Anoda has not taken her elder son to school at the age of 12.

The accused explained to the court that she is the sole breadwinner and the little money she gets she buys food and pays the rent.

The children were recovered in the house by neighbours who protested to Njoro Police Station demanding the police to intervene.

Njoro Deputy OCS arrested the suspect and commenced investigations, with Anoda asking the court to release her, but the court ordered her to be remanded at Njoro Police Station and children be kept at a children’s home.

The case will be heard on July 6 where a probation report will be given and further directions of the case.
