Former powerful Constitutional Affairs minister and Kenya's first Attorney General (AG) Charles Njonjo turned 100 years on Thursday.
Njonjo, in a speech to mark his birthday, reflected on his public and private life praising everyone who has made him who he is including his sons-in-law and grandchildren.
Here is part of his speech aired by Citizen TV where the former politician narrates everything without reading or referring from any physical materials;
It is with profound gratitude and humility that I have received many messages of congratulations and best wishes for my milestone birthday. These messages have come from many Kenyans both from here at home and the larger diaspora as well us from many other friends, acquaintances and well-wishers around the world.
Through my many years, I have dedicated myself to the service of my country, my church and fellow men in the civil service, constituency of Kikuyu and currently Kabete, private sector through all boards I have been involved with and the All Saints Cathedral. I have also dedicated my many hours to various churches, social enterprises and educational institutions such as Alliance High School, Kenya High and Starehe Boys Center.
I have been very proud and honoured to have interacted and worked alongside many talented and gifted people all of whom have enriched my professional and public life.
On this occasion, I am humbled by what I consider my greatest blessing, my loving family which, as expected, has grown over the years. First of all, my wonderful wife and life companion followed by my children.
