There have been calls to have Mt Kenya pay back by supporting Ruto in 2022, remarks which have since caused divisions in Central Kenya.

Ruto, who is at pole position to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been traversing the country to popularise his bid.

"We will not vote for William Ruto because we fear the repercussions of not doing so; we will vote for the hustler nation because we are honest and we keep our promises. We promise and deliver," he said.

"We are not conmen like mganga wa vitendawili. We are African and Africa is our business!" he added.

Besides Nyoro, Ruto has been working closely with Kimani Ichung'wah, Alice Wahome, Rigathi Gachagua among other leaders from Central Kenya.

President Kenyatta has remained tight lipped about his next move, with some pundits arguing that he may not endorse Ruto.

Uhuru is currently working closely with ODM leader Raila Odinga, aiming at implementation of the Building Bridges Initiative report.
