Polio vaccination exercise in Gatundu North has been closed on Thursday at 12:00 pm at Iruri village in Gituamba ward.

The exercise has seen close to 15, 000 children vaccinated with most of the children coming from Githobokoni.

According to Gituamba ward health administrator Joseph Mugo, the area set target of 1, 500 children has exceeded with 12 children.

Speaking from Iruri village, Mugo noted that getting to the target was only possible because of a better cooperation between parents, children and the vaccination officers.

"This is the last vaccination exercise in Gatundu North. We have come to a close of polio vaccination with 1, 512 children getting the vaccine from Gituamba ward a number that surpassed our 1500 target thanks to our hardworking officers and parents cooperation," he said.

"I am hereby issuing this 53 tuskys shopping vouchers to the 53 officers who tirelessly worked to help us get to our target. It’s a small appreciation to just show our gratitude for job well done," he said as he gave the vouchers to the officers who gathered for the closing ceremony.

Mugo lauded the national government for the huge improvements in the heath care sector.

"Much appreciation goes to our national government for its endless concern with regards to providing accessible health care services to the common mwananchi. From provision of drugs, deployment of medical facilities to employment of qualified personnel’s, we are grateful," he said.

The ward had 2, 896 children vaccinated from Mangu, 6,245 from Githobokoni, 3, 508 from Chania and 1, 512 from Gituamba.
