If the petition goes through, the returning officers at the constituency level will be compelled to declare the results final at the constituency level as opposed to the current set up that only recognizes the results as provisional.

Speaking to the reporter on Wednesday, Bosire termed the petition timely, saying it will help combat rigging allegations during general elections.

“I want to thank my brother Maina (Kiai) for the petition which is very timely. It seals rigging loopholes which have been there for many years now. The petition, if it goes through will help us manage our elections well,” he said.

“The results should be made final at the constituency level rather than waiting for the IEBC returning officer in Nairobi to make them formal. Presidential results should be treated equally with the constituency results,” he added.

He said incidents of election tampering will be combated substantially since many presidential candidates often field agents at the constituency level.

“Results are guarded well at the polling station and the constituency level because many agents are stationed there. This therefore means results must be formalized at those levels to avoid controversy in the national polls. I pray that the petition goes through for the sake of transparency,” Bosire added.

The petition comes amidst nationwide protests by the opposition over the embattled electoral Body IEBC commissioners.
