Speaking during a breakfast show on Radio Jambo on Thursday, Kalonzo said the project dubbed Northern Water Collector Tunnel, could be another mega corruption scandal which the Jubilee regime is using to steal from the public, arguing that the alacrity with which some of its leaders have defended it is quite telling.

"This tunnel could just be another corruption yet to be visited on Kenyans by the Jubilee regime which has perfected the art of stealing. Otherwise, how do you take the insults some of their leaders have directed at Raila who triggered the debate," he said.

The former vice president added that the construction of the tunnel should be stopped until environmental assessment impact is done, saying it could easily trigger conflicts in the concerned areas.

According to his Cord co-principal Raila Odinga, the project would turn Muranga, Tana River, Garissa and Ukambani areas into deserts since it would harvest water from the Aberdares which is the main water source for these areas.

However, National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale and Murang'a County Governer Mwangi Wa Iria hit out at Raila accusing him of seeking cheap political mileage by opposing the project which he, himself, commissioned.
