According to the Housing PS, Aidah Munano, the government is in the process of reviewing charges that are being levied on the citizens. Munano said the move is aimed at reducing the overall costs of houses across the country.

"Currently, infrastructural levies account for up to 30 percent of the cumulative cost of houses which if reduced will make housing services more affordable to Kenyans, especially the low income earners," noted Munano.

The PS further explained that the country at the moment erects close to 30,000 housing units annually, a figure that is way down below the country's housing needs. The ever rising demands in the country have been attributed to the slow pace of construction. However, as show of reprieve to house constructors, the government is also planning to drastically cut down taxes levied on housing developers in a bid to hasten the construction of quality houses to sustain the ever increasing demands by the low income earning citizens.
